Un anno santo straordinario, a partire dall'8 dicembre del 2015 fino al 20 novembre 2016. Questo l'annuncio dato da Papa Francesco nel giorno del secondo anniversario del suo pontificato, durante la celebrazione penitenziale nella basilica di San Pietro da lui presieduta. Si tratterà di un giubileo straordinario, un "giubileo della misericordia". Renzi definisce l'annuncio "una buona notizia" e garantisce che l'Italia farà la sua parte.   L'annuncio del Papa  “Cari fratelli e sorelle, ho pensato spesso a come la Chiesa possa rendere più evidente la sua missione di essere testimone della misericordia – ha detto il Pontefice nell’omelia - È un cammino che inizia con una conversione spirituale. Per questo ho deciso di indire un Giubileo straordinario che abbia al suo centro la misericordia di Dio. Sarà un Anno Santo della Misericordia. Lo vogliamo vivere alla luce della parola del Signore: siate misericordiosi come il Padre". Conclusione il 20 novembre 2016  L’Anno Santo, ha annunciato Papa Francesco, “inizierà nella prossima solennità dell'Immacolata Concezione e si concluderà il 20 novembre del 2016”. “Sono convinto – ha aggiunto - che tutta la Chiesa potrà trovare in questo Giubileo la gioia per riscoprire e rendere feconda la misericordia di Dio, con la quale tutti siamo chiamati a dare consolazione ad ogni uomo e ogni donna del nostro tempo. Lo affidiamo fin d'ora alla Madre della Misericordia, perché rivolga a noi il suo sguardo e vegli sul nostro cammino”.
